In what can only be described as a soap opera plot twist worthy of “90210,” actress Shannen Doherty has accused her estranged husband, photographer Kurt Iswarienko, of intentionally delaying their divorce proceedings in the hopes that she will pass away before he has to pay her spousal support. Yes, you read that right – this real-life drama seems to rival anything Hollywood could concoct.
Doherty, battling stage 4 breast cancer, didn’t hold back when she laid out the allegations against Iswarienko. “It simply isn’t right that Kurt can extend our divorce in hopes that I die before he has to pay me while he continues to lead his life and avoid his responsibilities to his dying wife of more than 11 years,” she stated bluntly.
The 54-year-old actress, whose income has understandably taken a hit due to her illness and medical expenses, claims that Iswarienko is living it up while she struggles. “Our assets are not challenging to characterize or divide,” she wrote in court documents. “Our divorce should not be complicated. It is abundantly clear to me that Kurt is intentionally delaying the settlement in hopes that I will not survive the divorce proceedings.”
Doherty is requesting $15,343 per month in spousal support, citing a significant disparity in their earnings. “Kurt’s average annual earnings for the last three years of marriage was $672,916,” she stated. “My average annual earnings for the last three years of marriage was $259,708.” Despite his higher income, she alleges he hasn’t contributed a dime to temporary spousal support or her legal fees since the divorce action was filed.
The couple, who married in 2011, seemed to be heading for a forever love story until reality crashed in. Doherty filed for divorce in April 2023, but not before undergoing surgery to remove a brain tumor in January 2023 – a surgery she went into with the crushing knowledge of her husband’s alleged infidelity.
“I went into that surgery early in the morning and I went in after I found out that my marriage was essentially over, that my husband had been carrying on an affair for two years,” she shared. “To not go in that surgery, even though he wanted to go, I couldn’t go into that surgery with him there. I felt so betrayed.”
The actress paints a picture of a man engaged in what she describes as a “sadistic push and pull game,” withholding crucial income information while indulging in luxuries. She alleges he spends thousands on medical spas, jewelry, Gucci, and flights for his agent – with whom she suspects he is romantically involved.
