Two 10-year-old boys tragically lost their lives in a car crash late Wednesday, according to a statement by the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department. The incident occurred as the driver, who happened to be their father, attempted to evade a traffic stop at a high speed, resulting in a devastating collision. The father and two other children involved in the accident are currently in critical condition.
The events unfolded around 11:49 pm when a sheriff’s deputy pulled over the driver due to speeding and a missing license plate. Instead of complying with the traffic stop, the driver chose to flee the scene, setting off a high-speed pursuit that ultimately culminated in a catastrophic crash approximately 11 miles from the initial location of the traffic stop.
The sheriff’s department clarified that the accident did not result from a collision with law enforcement, and the vehicle crashed independently. Aerial images showed a sedan overturned on its side after the collision.
The vehicle carried a total of six occupants, including the two deceased children. The other passengers included the driver, his 29-year-old girlfriend, a 6-year-old girl, and a 14-year-old girl. All four sustained injuries in the crash. According to the sheriff’s department, the driver is currently in critical but stable condition at a hospital, while both children remain in critical condition. The other adult involved is in stable condition.
The Wisconsin State Patrol will conduct a comprehensive investigation into the traffic incident. So far, there have been no indications of misconduct on the part of the deputies involved.
While the identities of the deceased and injured individuals have not been disclosed by the sheriff’s office, it was revealed that the driver had an existing warrant related to possessing a firearm as a felon. Furthermore, the driver fled the scene of the traffic stop at high speed before the deputies had an opportunity to interact with him.
The pursuit originated in Pewaukee, a city near Milwaukee with an approximate population of 15,000 residents, and led to the crash in Delafield, located approximately 11 miles to the west. In addition to the Wisconsin State Patrol’s investigation, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office will review the incident to ensure transparency and thorough examination.
