Bold Move: House GOP Slashes Transportation Secretary’s Pay!

The Republican-dominated House of Representatives has taken a bold step, passing a bill aimed at significantly reducing the salary of Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg to a mere $1. This decision comes on the heels of Buttigieg’s continued failures to fulfill his responsibilities effectively.

Buttigieg’s tenure as the head of the Department of Transportation has been marked by his notable absence during times of crises and critical issues. While the Department of Transportation often operates behind the scenes, it has faced a series of substantial challenges and problems since President Joe Biden appointed Buttigieg. These include widespread airline cancellations, contentious railroad negotiations, and a supply chain crisis that had severe economic repercussions. Notably, during the supply chain crisis, Buttigieg took a nearly three-month paternity leave and vacationed in Portugal during the tense railroad negotiations.

In addition to these significant crises, Buttigieg has been conspicuously absent during various other noteworthy transportation-related incidents. For example, he was notably missing during the aftermath of a train derailment that led to a toxic chemical spill in East Palestine, Ohio.

In response to Buttigieg’s repeated failures, Representative Marjorie Taylor-Greene (R-GA) introduced a measure to slash Buttigieg’s salary to a symbolic $1. The House approved this measure on Tuesday through a voice vote, amending it to the 2024 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Greene described the measure as an action to essentially “fire” Buttigieg due to his alleged misappropriation of taxpayer funds. She also pointed out Buttigieg’s frequent use of taxpayer-funded private planes, which she deemed excessive.

“I’m proud to announce my amendment to FIRE Pete Buttigieg just PASSED the House. Pothole Pete staged fake bike rides to the White House and used private planes funded by taxpayers to receive awards for the way certain people have sex,” Greene wrote. “American taxpayers should not be on the hook for paying for his lavish trips or his salary.”

It’s worth noting that despite Greene’s fiery comments, the measure technically reduces Buttigieg’s salary to $1 instead of outright terminating his employment.

In a follow-up post, the Georgia congresswoman emphasized Buttigieg’s apparent lack of dedication to serving the American people, particularly highlighting his delayed response to the toxic train derailment in East Palestine.

“Pete Buttigieg doesn’t serve the American people. It took him weeks to visit East Palestine after a toxic train derailment happened on his watch,” she added. “My amendment to cut his salary to $1 is paying him too much.”

In response to Greene’s bill, X users shared various clips showcasing Buttigieg’s failures, blunders, and misleading actions. This included footage of the infamous “fake bike ride” incident in 2021 when Buttigieg seemingly staged a bicycle ride to the White House to demonstrate his commitment to the climate change cause, despite being filmed pulling the bicycle out of an SUV before pedaling it briefly for the cameras, while a gas-guzzling SUV followed closely behind.
